About

Doom was an FPS game released in 1993 in ID software.

It was famous for being first FPS game that supported more than one floor height, which let the creators make more interesting levels.

Additionally, the walls were now made of lines instead of blocks.

It was also famous for its built-in modding support. People now could not only play the original levels, but also create their own. Except levels, people also found out a way to put their own graphics in the game.

The game objective is more or less the same as from iD's previous game - Wolfenstein 3D. You go around the level, looking for exit or, often, keys, while killing demons.

The game originally had 3 episodes, with 8 levels each (plus one secret one).

While John Carmack (the lead programmer of iD back then) said that "storyline in FPS game is like storyline in porn movie - it's expected to be there, but it's not that important", there is a kind of a storyline:

You are a space marine (name not told, because it's supposed to be you) that was sent to one of Mars' moons (Phobos) after killing your officer after refusing to do orders he told you to (killing innocent people).

While your buddies go to inflitrate a base, you stay to guard the spaceship. They don't return for quite some time, so you decide to go and check out what happened.

You certainly wasn't expecting what you've seen afterwards...

I'm going to make some map/mod reviews. Be sure to check them out from the links on the left!
